Comment On R.J's Body Modification Blog

I agree with the fact that you say its up to each individual as to what they do to their bodies, even though you may not like it. Also it can indeed be to do with a fashion statement, but can also be a part of their culture. You make good points about why people choose to modify their bodies and that its their choice. Overall your Blog comes across very well and is very interesting.

Comment On Lauren Hotchkiss' What you looking at? blog

I agree with you that everyone has been bullied in their life and that it is a horrible act. Also i agree that bullies are cowards as they always pick on people that are weaker than themselves and not someone who is their own strength and size. Your blog gives lots of information about bullying, such as you saying that sadly people commit suicide due to being bullied. Overall your blog is very informative and factual at the same time as interesting well done.

Comment On Kasey Rose' Sex For Sale Blog

I agree with your blog entirely. First of all some prostitutes like you said do it for money and others just love having sex. Also I also disagree that prostitutes should be stereotyped against as some want to be them. Overall your blog gives out lots of interesting facts and also different views on prostitution. So overall a very good blog

Comment On Tia's Alcohol Blog

I agree with your ideas totally, as i indeed would also not want to pay taxes etc on people who cannot drink sensibly. Also if they cannot drink sensibly they should be prepared to pay the consequences such as costs for health services to help them get better. Overall this blog has a lot of information and puts your point across well.

Comment On Angela Rollins Cheating blog

I agree with your blog on cheating completely. You have put forward some very good points and arguments. Cheating can be very wrong indeed but there are like you said other times where it is not seen to be as bad e.g. in a abusive relationship etc. Overall i find this blog very informational and a very good blog indeed.

Comment on Debbie's Illegal Downloading Blog

Yes i agree with your point. Also downloading illegal music etc may help boost the sales as people listen to more and then think to buy the product. However if caught you may be fined the amount you have downloaded, or could even face imprisonment. So you have to think whether it is still worth the risk.

Comment on being bad Shoplifting blog

I agree that shoplifting is wrong overall. You have made good strong points about why it is wrong and also the consequences of committing this act. However some people may shoplift due to not having any money and therefore stealing food to survive. This may not always be bad as the person may have been kicked out of their home at a young age and not know how to make a living without stealing. Overall though your point comes across really well.

Comment on Random Speculations (Megan) Swearing blog

I think that your blog on swearing is very interesting and factual. You make good points about the people that swear every other word being 'normal' as it isnt funny or shocking anymore.
Swear words will indeed change throughout time like you said humourously with door meaning a complete idiot. Swearing can be used in humour and at the same time also be very rude which you have spoken about.

Comment on Hannah-Louise' Smoking blog

I agree with your blog as i too know many people that smoke and therefore i am not against them doing so. However i belive that the ban on smoking indoors is good as it stops young children inhaling toxic smoke which could damage them in future. You have mentioned effects of what smoking does to someones insides, but could also mention effects on others due to being around smokers all their lives. Overall i agree with your blog on smoking and think it conveys the message well.

Bloginator (Jacky) comment on Vandalism

I agree that most of us sometimes get the sudden urge to break something down such as lego as you said or sandcastles. I feel that vandalism is always a criminal act and should rarely be classified as just being bad. You have given several reasons as to why people commit vandalism, but another one could be due to people being drunk or under the influence of drugs. Finally lack of upbringing of young children may also lead to vandalism.

Playing video games

Video games have for a long time been controversial for their gory and sexually explicit graphics. Some parents and a number of organisations believe that such video games not only curb the development of but also desensitise their children. Desensitising is when a child watches a video game with a lot of violence and afterwards is not really affected by real life violence.

There is also the concern over game addiction. Some children have been known to spend up to 24 hours on playing video games and hardly get any sleep. This is very bad for their health, which leads to a lack of concentration in school.

For years parent groups and organisations have complained and asked for video games with a large amount of violence or sexual content to be banned. In the UK video games are rated by the Pan European Game Information system (PEGI), who rates video games by age, with about 10% of video games (i.e. those that contain gross violence) also being vetted by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). It has been suggested however that there should be a 18-month consultation period between the games industry and the UK Government to decide upon a unified video games classification.

Should parents be more aware of the contents of video games? Also, should parents limit the time their children can play video games?

Body modifications

Body modification is a deliberate change or alteration of the human body for non-medical reasons. It is just for enjoyment, sexual enhancement, aesthetic reasons, self-expression, etc.

Body modification can be in the form of piercings, tattoos, implants and/or removing parts of the body or even changing the shape of a body part. In extreme cases people have been splitting their tongue, tattooing their eyeballs and even implanting horns into their head.

Some religions or tribes also have body modification as a sign of their skill or bravery. For instance, some tribes stretch their necks and lips.

In the future people may even start modifying their genes to make them more muscular and so on.

What do you make of body modifications?

Betrayal

Betrayal can mean giving aid or information to an enemy of one's country(i.e. treason), delivering into the hands of an enemy a person in violation of trust or allegiance (i.e. betrayal of Christ to the Romans), being false or disloyal (i.e. betrayal of a cause) and divulging information of a confidential nature (i.e. betrayal of a secret).

Betrayal can lead to a conflict within a relationship between individuals, between an individual and an organisation or between two organisations. Someone who betrays another person or an organisation is usually called a betrayer or traitor.

Here I wish to concentrate on betrayal of a person that loves and and trusts another such as a partner or friend. When one makes friends with another person and spends a lot of time together it is quite natural to discuss information about oneself, some of which may be secret. If the other person divulges such information to third parties this can be very hurtful and can destroy one's trust.

The immedicate effect for a person that has been betrayed is emotional, with the distress felt being greater the greater the trust one had in the other person. A number of emotions can befall the person that has been betrayed, such as anger, fear of loss of the relationship and repulsion.

What can be worse than a betrayal of a person you lover and trust?

Teenage pregnancies

Teenage pregnancy is related to girls aged 13 to 19 who have had unprotected sex and become pregnant. This could be due to a lack of knowledge in contraception (i.e. not being able to access them) and/or due to adolescent sexual behaviour (i.e. being promiscuous).

But does this mean that girls, who become pregnant as a result of their naivety by not using protection when engaging in sexual intercourse, are being bad?

Masturbation

Masturbation is a sexual stimulation, mainly the persons own genitals. The stimulation is usually performed manually by touching the genital area or rubbing it to give pleasure. However people can also use a variety of sex toys (e.g. vibrators, rubber dolls, etc.) or even household items (e.g. pillows, etc.).

This act is considered a sin in the Catholic Church and also is very much frowned upon by others.

Why do people still engage in this despised act?

Nuisance - loud music

Loud music is when someone plays there music loud enough for other people within the surrounding area to be able to hear it when they do not want to. This is called as a nuisance.

Such nuisance has been known to cause arguments between people and even break out into violence. People who suffer from nuisance caused by consistent loud music (i.e. blaring hi-fi system, rock concert, etc.) especially in the early hours and the late hours of the day may seek an injunction through the Courts in order to stop the nuisance from either happening or continuing.

Why do people carry on blasting out their music? Is it because they think it is cool? Or is it just to annoy everyone else? I sure love loud music but I certainly do not wish to be a nuisance!

Bullying of children

Bullying can be physical, verbal or mental. Bullies usually target other children that are weaker than themselves by using verbally offensive and demeaning comments or by physically hurting them. It can have dire consequences for the victims and can lead to stress-related illnesses and in some cases to suicide.

In response to the increase of bullying the UK Government has made the tackling of bullying in and outside school a top priority, emphasising that no form of bullying should be tolerated.

There are several organisations where parents and/or children can obtain help. For instance Childline, Kidscape, Bullying, etc.

Sadly, in the 11 March 2010 issue of the Daile Express it was reported that a 13-year old girl hanged herself with her school tie after enduring bullying by some classmates. Why is it that some children seem to get a kick out of bullying? Should bullying be classified as a criminal offence with appropriate penalties, including custodial sentence?

Infidelity

Infidelity is when someone is unfaithful to their partner or wife that they are in an intimate relationship with. It can be sexual or non-sexual. Infidelity is not just about cheating as it also involves disloyalty, lying, trust, respect, etc. Infidelity can have a disastrous effect on family life, particularly for young children.

Statistics for the UK indicate that approximately 45% of married women and 60% of married men have been unfaithful during a relationship. Infidelity can be a one night stand or a long term affair which had been planned.

People are unfaithful sometimes for the excitement they derive from an affair and sometimes to get out of an unhappy relationship. On occasions infidelity can be a cry for help when there is something seriously wrong with a relationship.

Couples who experience difficulties in their relationship can obtain help from organisations such as Armchair Advice.

So, why carry out this act if you say you love the person you are with?

Teasing

Teasing can come in two main forms, playful or hurtful. I am focusing more on hurtful, which can lead on to become harassment. In extreme cases hurtful teasing can actually lead to violence and in very severe cases to abuse.

Why do people want to tease others? I think playful teasing is all right, but hurtful teasing in my eyes is definately "being bad"!

Stalking

Stalking can be defined as "behaviour whereby a person inflicts repeatedly and persistently unwanted intrusions and communications on another". It may also take the form of harassment. Intrusions include following a person and making approaches by letters, telephone, texts, gifts, etc.

Stalking can cause extreme feeling of anxiety or fear to the person affected. Further, it can be very stressful for a family as a whole.

If a person feels that it is subjected to "stalking" the first step should be to get in touch with the police for help.

Cruelty to children

There are different forms of cruelty to children, i.e. emotional abuse, physical abuse, neglect and sexual abuse.

It is very hard to believe that any parent would harm a child, who relies on its love and protection. Sadly however, there are hundreds of reported cases of child cruelty in the UK each year and children affected have often no one to turn to for help.

Children that have been subjected to abuse/cruelty can be affected for the rest of their lives and it is therefore important that symptoms are recognised as early as possible. This will greatly help in providing appropriate treatment and the chance of recovery. In serious cases it may well be necessary for the child to be taken into care by other family members or social services.

There are a number of organisations, other than the social services, that provide help in the protection of children, such as the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), Kidscape and Helpguide.

Knowing the harm and/or damage cruelty does to children it is the responsibility of adults to ensure their wellbeing and safety. I ask myself: Should we all do more in protecting children against abuse/cruelty?

Lying

Lying can be differentiated between barefaced lies and white lies. A "barefaced lie" is usually about something that one knows to be false and is told with a straight face and confident voice and body language, portraying to others that one speaks the truth. A "white lie" is often told as not to cause any offence or not to upset somebody and if uncovered would only lead to a minor discord.

Lying can hurt a person emotionally and can make it lose trust in the person that committed the lie, especially in a relationship. Also, lying does not give a good example to children and should be avoided.

In an article in The Sun Newspaper of 24 February 2010 the psychological coach, Darren Stanton, gives top tips for spotting fibbers, which include making eye contact, where a person looks to, what a person says, watching the hands, watching the lips, looking for twitches and in the case of woman see whether she blushes.

Why does a person lie? Is it to protect oneself or is it to get pleasure from misleading another person?

Gambling

Gambling can be described as staking one's money or items of value on an event with an uncertain outcome, with the overriding intent to win additional money or items of value.

In most countries gambling is legal but regulated. However in Islamic countries it is prohibited. The gambling industry in the UK had a turnover of £94 Billion in 2006/07, with nearly 68% of the population having gambled predominately on the National Lottery. In the UK commercial gambling is regulated by the Gambling Commission, which was set up under the Gambling Act 2005 as a non-governmental body.

Greed seems to play a major part in gambling as people want more and more money, when in fact they can end up poor with none. In some cases gambling can lead to an "addiction", which can strain relationships with others and more importantly destroy family life.

Gambling addiction can be treated and there are a number of organisations such as Helpguide, who are able to provide help.

Bandits and outlaws

Bandits and outlaws are basically the same thing, except the word "bandit" is now part of the English slang lexicon.

A bandit or outlaw is normally a person that commits a serious crime (e.g. robbing a bank, etc.) and acts outside the law.

I have to ask: Is this being bad? I certainly think so!

Getting into debt

Debt can result from people spending more money than they earn. It can be accidental, but most of the time it is deliberate.

People seem to think that if they go into an overdraft they can carry on spending as they will not have to pay it back for a period of time or not at all. They also ignore the fact that interest will make the debt grow even further and make the repayment period longer.

Serious debt can badly affect family life, particularly where children are involved. In some cases serious debt has led to people suffering from depression and ultimately committing suicide as a way out.

People who have got into serious debt may need professional help to sort out their financial problems. For instance, help is at hand from the National Debtline.

So think about it. Is it really a good idea to go into debt?

Streaking

Is streaking being bad or is it just purely hilarious? Well, to some it is very offensive as the person exposes their private parts in public. It can also be a crime, known as indecent exposure, which can lead to fines or even time in jail. To me it is a laugh! What do you think?

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

Swearing

For years people have been using swear words which can be insulting, rude, vulgar or disrespectful to others and if consistently used over a period of time can make lives for the afflicted a misery. Sometimes swear words can be classed as blasphemous by religious people, that is, when people use the lord's name in vain, etc. Swearing can also be racist, which could lead to criminal convictions. Adults should avoid swearing in front of children!

Yet people still swear. Why?

Bad cinema

Being bad can be in the form of bad cinema (e.g. the film "Kids" I saw at the Lighthouse Cinema in Wolverhampton recently, which contained violence and promiscuous sexual behaviour). Is it that such films entertain people and make their lives more fun or is it a social event that they love to watch? However, does this make them bad?

Regarding sex, research has revealed that three out of four teenagers stated that films make it seem normal for them to engage in sexual relationships, with the UK having the highest number of teenage pregnancies in Western Europe.

Also research has shown that films which contain levels of violence have led to children displaying aggressive behaviour, not to mention that they become desensitised to violence in real life.

Parents should be able to reduce the influence bad cinema has on their children by monitoring and/or limiting exposure to films containing violence and promiscuous sexual behaviour. At the same time parents can teach them to engage in alternative behaviour.

In the UK contents of films and videos are controlled and classified by the British Board of Film Classification, which is a non-governmental body set up in 1912.

Smoking

Many people choose to smoke even though it is a fact that it increases the risk of serious illness, including throat and lung cancer. It can also damage a woman's unborn child if she smokes when pregnant. However, there are still, as always, the adverts and any cartoons and films which encourage smoking. But why?

Cruelty to animals

This is something I will never understand. I mean, what pleasure is there in hurting an animal that cannot even defend itself? If this is not being bad, then I do not know what is. Just think of it, if you were the animal being cruelly treated. How would you feel?

Sadly, statistics released by the RSPCA relating to animal cruelty in 2007 show a worrying upward trend. This is despite the fact that in 2006 the Animal Welfare Act came into force.

Are penalties in regard to animal cruelty not unduly lenient?

Bad manners

Is bad manners being bad or is it just something people do not like? Well, everyone has used bad manners at some point in their life. Somehow though bad manners can really upset people or annoy them.

Bad manners can be defined as "impoliteness resulting from ignorance" or "a discourteous manner that ignores accepted social usage".

Manners need to be taught. This should normally be the task of parents. Children that have been taught proper manners will be well equipped with survival skills for the rest of their lives.

Sadly, it would appear that today some parents seem to have absconded their responsibility in bringing their children up with good manners and in teaching them to have consideration for others. In 2008 an article in the Daily Mail titled "Britain, the spitting image of bad manners" by Neil Sears stated "more than half of those questioned said poor manners were the biggest problem facing society and just over two thirds said they were the cause of anti-social behaviour" and "parents are largely to blame for the declining standards" according to the survey for a TV programme.

Statistics provided by the Home Office to end December 2007 show that a total of 14,972 anti-social behaviour orders were issued in England and Wales.

This poses the question: Should parents be made legally responsible for the actions of their children living at home irrespective of age, including having to pay compensation where appropriate?

Daily Mail (London), 28 April 2008

Prostitution

Is paying for sex really worth it? Prostitution is associated with the spread of different sexual diseases.

Is it being bad selling your body for money? However, prostitution does not mean that the women involved are "being bad" as there are a variety of reasons why a woman becomes a prostitute (i.e. leaving home at an early age, getting into financial difficulties, etc.).

The legalisation of prostitution varies with different countries within Europe. Some countries regard prostitution as a "profession" whereas others regard it as a "crime". Should prostitution be regulated in the UK?

Prostitution legal and regulated
Prostitution (the exchange of sex for money)
legal, but organised activities such as
brothels and pimping are illegal, prostitution
is not regulated
Prostitution illegal

Illegal Drugs

Well, the simple question is: what is the point in wasting your money on them? Is it enough that in return for a couple of hours of feeling high and carefree what follows is feeling down and in the doldrums? Drugs are likely to damage various aspects of your well being and health and in some cases can lead to death. Not to mention the impact on parents and siblings!

Obesity

Is it good to make sure your children eat? Yes, would be the appropriate answer. But what food should they eat and what should they eat less of? Obesity has been a cause of concern for children growing up as they suffer from bullying and also health problems. So, why not make sure children grow up healthy and happy. This applies equally to adults.
